No.7 - El Nido669 Del Mar AvenueDr. George B. Worthington purchased this lot from the San Diego Land Company on March 16, 1912. The deed required him to build a $2,000 house within six months, and the home was completed by December. Title was then transferred to the Worthington Investment Company, which was composed primarily of members of the Worthington family. Dr. Worthington, who was one of the pioneer doctors in Chula Vista, lived in this house with his family for the next five years. In 1917, title passed to Charles L. Onderdonk, who sold the house to Colonel Charles Miller on April 28, 1919. On May 24, 1927, Mary Miller sold the property to Dr. Karl Kellogg, a member of the well-known Kellogg family of Battle Creek Michigan, founders of the cereal empire. Dr. Kellogg was also a physician and lived in this house, known as El Nido, or "the nest," for 30 years. An elementary school in Chula Vista was later named in his honor. The home is significant for its unique, one-story architectural style. |
