No.35 - B.K. Maude House155 G StreetMrs. B.K. Maude acquired title to this property from the San Diego Land and Town Company in December 1889. The house was probably built that year for Mrs. Maude, who called her home and the surrounding 10 acres "El Enjambre Ranch," or "swarm of bees." Henry Gulick bought the site in October 1891, and after his death, William Gulick acquired the property, including the eight-room house and farm equipment, on June 15, 1906. It was immediately sold to Charles F. Mohnike on June 28, 1906, and then to Dora C. Lanier on July 21, 1906. Charles D. Seaton, an attorney for Fortune Lanier, acquired the property in September 1909, followed by Wilson and James Huxley in 1910 and 1911. The Huxleys owned the property for a number of years. The house is known locally as the "boarding house." Although it has undergone extensive exterior alterations, it retains historical significance as the home of a pioneer family and one of the few standing Victorians in Chula Vista. |
