No.34 - Mark Skinner House

374 Roosevelt Street

This house was built by Mark Skinner around 1924.  He was a native of Nebraska and son of Mr. and Mrs. Anzel H. Skinner.  Mark Skinner was a plumber and assisted his father in the operation of the Skinner Hardware Store, on the the pioneer Chula Vista businesses.  In 1931, he was manager of the A.H. Skinner & Company.  In served as a building inspector for the City of Chula Vista for several years and was interested in civic affairs.

The house is significant as an unusual variation of the bungalow style popular in Chula Vista in the 1910s and early 1920s and as the home of a well-known businessman.  Despite replacement of the original siding, the house generally retains integrity of design.
