No. 28 ~ Kindergarten Building

503 G Street

This house was once a kindergarten classroom at the Chula Vista school located at Fourth and F Streets, the current location of the Chula Vista Public Library.  The building stood in what is now the library parking lot. The Fourth and F Street School opened in 1915, and the first kindergarten classes in the district opened that same year. It is unclear if this building was constructed on site or moved from another location.

The Chula Vista Historical Society believes that this structure was moved to its current location in 1927. Alex Cameron owned the building as a rental property, and Joseph Bentley, a gardener, and his wife Flora lived there from 1928 to 1930.

This building is significant because of its relationship to Chula Vista's second school and its history as the city's first kindergarten classroom.
