| No.27 ~ Nancy Jobes House209 D Street
Water was connected to this property on June 2, 1888, and that date may mark the beginning of construction of this house for C.C. and Nancy Jobes, who received the deed from the San Diego Land and Town Company on March 2, 1889. The house had a variety of owners until March 22, 1913, when it was purchased by Dr. Marcos E. Carver, an Episcopal priest. Dr. Carver founded St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Diego and was its rector from 1913 to 1917. He also served as the priest in charge of missions on the Island of Kauai until his retirement in 1925. This house is significant as a good example of 19th century Victorian architecture and as the home of a Chula Vista pioneer family and a well-known religious leader. |
