No.20 ~ Hazel Goes Cook House

62 Cook Court

Maxwell and Hazel Goes Cook came west in 1910, purchasing five acres in Chula Vista the following year and having this house constructed for them in 1912. Mr. Cook was in poor health, but his wife eventually acquired 100 acres of lemon orchards and served as president of the M.O.D. packing house for several years.

Hazel Goes Cook was one of the best-known women in Chula Vista, serving on the Chula Vista Union District School Board for 50 years, beginning in 1922. She received numerous awards for community service before her death at age 93 in 1978.

Historical photos indicate that this house was originally in the Cape Cod style, which was very unusual in Chula Vista. One of the city's original "Orchard Houses," it has been altered and added on to significantly, but retains importance as the house of one of Chula Vista's leading citizens.
